Our March session is especially designed for beginners who want to experience the satisfying process of creating a linocut.

What is linocut? In 1860 Frederik Walton invented a novel material called linoleum, following his observations of how oxidation affected linseed oil. This process is reflected in the name of the material, as it was born from the combination of the Latin words 'linum" (flax) and "oleum"(oil). Artists soon realized that the new material was excellently suited for printing, and so linocut became the modern form of woodcut, the oldest of printing methods. One of the great advantages of the technique is that you do not necessarily need a pricy printing press to make it work, meaning that after mastering the basics, the art can easily be practiced from the comfort of your home.

What is the difference between different type of inks?

Does it matter where you buy your linoleum?

Are the pricey block printing tools worth your money?

Our March session is especially designed for beginners who want to experience the satisfying process of creating a linocut. We provide you with a 10x15cm linoleum sheet, a manageable size for starting out, step-by-step instructions, and all the tools you will need to realize your design including black paint, ink roller, carving tools and paper.

Do you already have a design in mind? Fantastic! Bring it along and we will help you to make it work.

Are you more interested in the process? Don’t worry! We have beautiful flower-themed stained-glass designs by Miksa Róth, which will work just as fine in linoluem.
